The Ultimate Guide to Minecraft Bastion Remnants in the Nether

The Nether is a dark hellish dimension in Minecraft that holds many surprises. While most players are familiar with regular Nether fortresses, Bastion Remnants are less known and can surprise new or returning players. These structures, made of basalt and blackstone, are perfect for advanced players looking for a big challenge. Today, we’ll take a closer look at how to find, raid, and get the best loot from these structures.

Introduction to Bastion Remnants in Minecraft

Minecraft Bastion Remnants in the Nether

Bastions were likely once the home of Piglins, who roam throughout the Nether and are its natural inhabitants. However, over the many decades, the structures have decayed and now only ruins remain in the Nether. While Piglins and other monsters can still be found there, the ravages of time have taken their toll on the imposing bastions.

There are four different types of Bastion Remnants you can find, and you should visit them all to get the best loot!

  • Bridge: This is the smallest structure of all bastions. The bridge is easy to spot and runs through the structure. If you look closely, you can even see a face!
  • Hoglin Stables: As the name suggests, these were the former stables for Hoglins. As such, they are teeming with them. This variant consists of three floors and two high towers that you should definitely explore.
  • Housing Units: The Piglin housing is very maze-like and can be somewhat confusing to explore. However, they are the only place besides Nether fortresses where you can find Nether wart.
  • Treasure Room: This Bastion Remnant is likely the one most players should seek out. It consists of two large sections connected by a bridge. The large treasure room is a sort of grand adventure space, with great loot in its center and even a Magma Cube spawner! However, reaching the bottom is not so simple.

How to Find Bastion Remnants in the Nether

How to Find Bastion Remnants in the Nether

The generation of Bastion Remnants is interesting because it depends on Nether fortresses. Approximately 60% of all fortresses are converted into bastions when your Minecraft world is created. The “Basalt Deltas” biome is excluded, as the basalt blocks there would make it very difficult to recognize the ruins. Striders on one of the large lava lakes are a good way to explore the Nether.

Basically, you’ll find Bastion Remnants by simply exploring the Nether. The large structures should not be overlooked. However, you can also use external map tools like Chunkbase to find corresponding ruins through your seed. Unfortunately, there are no direct methods in the game (like maps from villagers) to find Bastion Remnants.

Tactics for Fighting in Bastion Remnants

Though Bastions are just ruins, they are surprisingly lively. You will find some of the strongest monsters in the game here, so prepare accordingly for a visit. Once you’ve found a bastion, you should set your spawn point in the Nether with a respawn anchor. Because you will likely die. Use multiple chests to store your loot.

Your basic equipment should be good diamond or netherite armor, along with a sword or axe. A bow is also indispensable! It doesn’t hurt to take some potions of fire resistance with you, as you could fall into lava in the jagged ruins.

These monsters await you:

  • Piglin Brutes: The brutes are among the strongest opponents in the normal game and can kill you in two hits if you’re not careful. Use a bow to eliminate them from a distance. Otherwise, you can catch them in boats in close combat and then kill them. Still, be careful not to get too close, as they can still attack you.
  • Piglins: Piglins should be familiar to you from the Nether. A piece of gold armor helps only until you are attacked. A bow is probably your best defense!
  • Hoglins: Hoglins are usually the inhabitants of crimson forests but can also be found in Bastion Remnants. They primarily appear in the stables but also in any other ruins adjacent to a crimson forest. They can hit hard and kill you faster than you’d like. Use a shield for defense or build up 3 blocks to avoid damage.
  • Magma Cubes: Magma Cubes spawn in the treasure room and like to push you into the lava. They can be killed easily with sword blows. The spawner is useful, for example, for building a froglight farm (Discover Frog Variants and Automatic Frog Light Farm in Minecraft) .
  • Ghasts: If you’re lucky (or unlucky), Ghasts can spawn in the treasure rooms of Bastion Remnants. Here too, the bow is your best weapon!

The Valuable Loot of Bastion Remnants

Valuable Loot of Bastion Remnants

The question naturally arises as to why you should search for Bastion Remnants. After all, they are not easy to find, and the battles can be really tough! But for the loot found in the four variations of the ruins, a trip is definitely worth it. Some items can only be found here, and it’s also one of the best methods to obtain netherite.

This loot can be found in Bastion Remnants:

  • Full gold blocks (some are visible, others hidden behind walls)
  • Lodestone (a type of compass for the Nether, guaranteed in some chests)
  • Netherite ingots, netherite scraps & ancient debris (perfect for your armor and tools)
  • Music disc “Pigstep” (Minecraft Records: All Locations & How to Build an Automatic Farm)
  • Snout banner pattern (also only found here)
  • Rib armor trim (exclusive smithing template)
  • Netherite upgrade (for upgrades with netherite)
  • Diamonds and diamond tools (some enchanted)
  • Spectral arrows (give opponents a glowing outline)
  • Gilded blackstone (stylish decorative block)
  • Golden apples & golden carrots

Conclusion on Bastion Remnants as a Minecraft Adventurer

Bastion Remnants are perfect for testing your skills as an advanced Minecraft player. Explore the Nether and find all four variations to get the best loot. Rent your own Minecraft server with us and fight your way through the ruins together. It can be quite challenging to defeat the Piglin Brutes alone. But for some of the exclusive items, such as the armor patterns, the music disc “Pigstep,” or the banner pattern, a visit is definitely worth it!
