Discover Minecraft's Animals: Rabbits, Camels, and Goats

Minecraft’s game world is incredibly lively and particularly exciting to explore due to its natural diversity. This includes a whole host of animals you can find in various biomes. While in the first part of this article series we focused on pandas, dolphins, and foxes, today we’re taking a closer look at the adorable rabbits, the large camels, and the mischievous goats! If you want to complete your collection of animals for achievements or just for your farm, you should keep an eye out for them.

Rabbits: Cute Pets with Valuable Items

Rabbits in Minecraft

Rabbits or bunnies are creatures many players have long desired. They were finally added to the game with the 1.8 update and can be found in various biomes! They love to hop around but are very skittish, running away from both players and monsters.

You can find rabbits in 6 different colors:

  • Gold: Desert
  • White: Snow biomes
  • Black: Taiga & Forests
  • Black and White: Snow biomes
  • Brown: Taiga & Forests
  • Brown Spotted: Taiga & Forests

You can, of course, bring rabbits back to your base and tame them. Use a lead to keep them in a pen. You can breed them by feeding two rabbits carrots, golden carrots, or dandelions.

Rabbits also have some unique drops that you can obtain:

  • They drop rabbit hide, which can be crafted into leather. You can also trade it with a villager for emeralds. Unfortunately, you cannot (currently) craft bundles from it.

  • Raw rabbit is a good food source and can be crafted into rabbit stew with mushrooms, a potato, and a carrot.

  • Rabbit’s foot is the rarest drop and can be used to brew a potion of leaping.

Lastly, there are two fun Easter eggs associated with Minecraft’s rabbits. First, you can rename a rabbit “Toast” with a name tag to give it a unique fur pattern. This secret was added in honor of a Reddit user. The second and more well-known Easter egg is the Killer Bunny, which you can only spawn in Java via commands. It is extremely aggressive, a nod to the film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” It should be approached with caution as it can kill you in two hits!

Camels: The Rulers of the Desert

Camels in Minecraft

Camels haven’t been in Minecraft for long and don’t appear very frequently. You can find them in desert villages and occasionally in the regular desert. Much like in real life, they are quite large but rather slow. They enjoy sitting around and soaking up the warm weather!

As the newest rideable animal, camels come with various new features. You can lead them around with a lead and breed them with cacti to get more camels. Unlike horses, all camels have the same stats. If you give them a saddle, you can ride them. The best part is, you don’t even have to tame them first—they will obey you right away!

When riding a camel, you can enjoy these features:

  • You can ride not only alone but also with another player.

  • They can walk through 3-block-deep water, unlike horses that can only manage 2 blocks. This makes them surprisingly good for exploration.

  • Camels can’t jump high but can walk over 1.5-block-high obstacles like fences or walls.

  • They also have a sort of dash, which you can charge by holding the spacebar. Watch your XP bar and release at the right moment to jump 9 to 10 blocks. This allows you to cross small rivers or ravines effortlessly.

  • Thanks to their size, camels are perfect for avoiding monster attacks. Even Endermen can’t reach you! However, beware of jumping spiders and skeleton arrows.

Goats: Crafty Mountain Dwellers

Goats in Minecraft

Goats are also relatively new to Minecraft, but they pack a punch! You can find them in the three mountain regions: frozen peaks, snowy slopes, and jagged peaks. They often gather in smaller groups and enjoy jumping, reaching up to 10 blocks in height and 5 blocks in width per jump. They like to find the highest point in their biome.

You can breed goats normally with wheat. Approximately two percent of all spawned or bred goats are screaming goats. They have different sounds and are generally more aggressive. Goats will try to butt you with their horns if you stand still for too long.

Beyond milk, goats are particularly known for their horns, which are why the sound of such a horn can be heard during a pillager raid. There are eight different variants of these goat horns, four normal (Feel, Seek, Sing, Ponder) and four from screaming goats (Yearn, Dream, Call, Admire). They all make different sounds! Goats can spawn with zero, one, or two horns, and they drop as many as they have left. Both horns are always the same.

To find all eight goat horn variants, you can build a simple farm:

  1. Gather enough regular and screaming goats in a pen.
  2. Lure the goats with armor stands, but ensure they run into a block first. You can use wood logs, packed ice, stone, or certain ores for this.
  3. Use one of these blocks over a piston elevated by a pressure plate. When the goat charges towards the armor stand and steps on the plate, it will hit the block and drop its horn.
  4. You can use Allays to automatically collect the horns. (Minecraft Allay Guide: Locations, Tasks, and More)

Conclusion

Minecraft’s animal diversity has grown significantly over the years, which sometimes can make it challenging for players to keep track. However, each animal species has its unique traits and introduces new game mechanics. So, you should definitely go on the hunt for this diverse fauna! You can also rent your own Minecraft server with us and embark on a quest to find some of these animals together. Discover all the rabbit variants, ride together on a camel’s back, or let screaming goats push you off a mountain peak.
